Be Aware: Jugging
Aug 1, 2025“Jugging” is a type of theft where criminals target individuals after they visit a bank or ATM. These thieves work in groups and watch for people who withdraw large amounts of cash or valuables, often from inside the bank or from safe deposit boxes. Once a target is identified, the suspects follow the individual to another destination, like a store or business, and wait for the right moment to break into their vehicle and steal their belongings.
How to Protect Yourself from Jugging
Stay Aware of Your Surroundings
• Be alert when entering and exiting banks or ATMs.
• Look out for suspicious people or vehicles lingering nearby.
• Avoid handling or displaying large amounts of cash in public.
Keep It Digital When Possible
• Use electronic banking options or credit cards instead of carrying cash.
• Transfer funds securely and keep bank visits discreet.
Don’t Leave Valuables in Your Car
• Never leave cash, wallets, jewelry, or bags in plain sight.
• Always lock your car and roll up windows.
• Park in well-lit, high-traffic areas with security cameras, whenever possible.
Responding to Suspicious Behavior
• If you feel like you’re being followed, do not drive home.
• Call the authorities immediately to report suspicious activity.
